Delta - a mound of sand, silt, and clay carried and dropped by a river when its speed and strength are suddenly reduced, usually by entering a larger body of water such as a sea, gulf, or ocean. A delta often can be seen from above as a fan shape extending from the river's mouth out into the larger water body.
